We were heading up a mountain on a tropical island, one that reflects the very definition of paradise. This mountain is a local life source, constantly providing fresh water because it rains only at the top of the mountain every day of the year.
Somewhere along the way, we stopped to stretch and wander. Just a few steps off the road, I saw it. It was as if a rainbow was shining up from beneath the ground. Every color beneath my feet, shimmering in the sunshine. Am I dreaming? The mountain alone was already a wonder — how could there possibly be more awe in a single day?
But it was real, and suddenly, it was surrounding me, pulling me in deeper until every direction I looked, as far as I could see, was rainbow soil. My body moved before my mind could catch up, instinctively reaching down to touch, to feel its texture, its cool dampness, its earthy scent of fresh rainfall. I watched where one hue melted into the next, each handful of earth shifting and glittering like a secret. Even blue and violet — colors so rare in nature — appeared there, falling through my fingers. I longed to lie on it like a pillow.
I could end the story right here, and it would be more than enough. But this next part, well, its a thing of magic. We finally continued toward the summit, and as we arrived at the top, an actual RAINBOW arched across the sky — a perfect mirror of the colors I’d just held in my hands. It felt as if the earth and sky had spoken to each other — and somehow, we’d been invited to listen.
This painting is made from the rainbow rocks I managed to carry with me, and inspired by the magic of this day.
